Commemorative Healing Garden
You are Planting the Seeds
Our Commemorative Healing Garden will create a quiet space of refuge, where one can be completely immersed in nature, surrounded by calming plants and trees. With your support, a parcel of land on the south end of our property will be transformed into a Commemorative Healing Garden. We will also increase the use of the Larry Kelly Garden by adding more usable space and shade by building a gazebo. Our new garden will link together our existing green spaces and make them easier for our families to find and use.
The Healing Power of Our Garden
Studies have shown that exposure to nature can significantly reduce resident stress, and a well-planned landscape design offers security and comfort to those who live at St. Pat’s.
The Healing Garden area will give residents the opportunity to enjoy things they used to; walking through a garden; strolling or sitting in the sun taking in the sounds and fragrances of the garden. These activities can contribute to improving their independence and self-esteem.
Sometimes residents want to sit by themselves, away from the crowd; at other times they may prefer to have company. A mixture of individual and shared seating areas will accommodate their preference. A customized patio will provide the space for family visits, celebrations and outdoor group activities.

Our Garden’s Features
Accessible: Our Commemorative Healing Garden will welcome everyone in our community. Its fully accessible entrance, pathways and materials will convey hospitality to those who use wheelchairs or walkers
Inviting: Our Commemorative Healing Garden will be a bright and glorious sign of welcome for all who enter, inviting rest, lingering, and conversation. It will be a calm and beautiful place for solitude or for visiting with family and friends.
Contemplative: The plantings and other natural features will awaken the senses of sight, smell and touch, creating an environment for introspection and prayer for those facing some of life’s biggest questions and challenges.
Community: A low perimeter wall with benches along the walkway at the south end of the property will invite neighbors and passers-by to pause for a moment to talk or to rest.
Spiritual: Our Commemorative Healing Garden will be a place to come together for music and memorials, and other celebrations to heal and renew the spirit.
Remembering: The garden will have dedicated areas to honour the hundreds of men and women who have lived at St. Pat’s. Our garden will also give thanks for those who live with us today and humbly anticipate the men and women who will join us in the years to come.
