Capital improvement projects preserve our new Home – and create a warm, comfortable, homelike atmosphere.

The Garden Refurbishment Project

All throughout the spring and summer, The Larry Kelly Family Garden fills with people seeking a restorative or social space where they can read, visit, tend to the gardens or simply enjoy the beautiful sky and fresh air. When the weather is fair, the patio may be used to host Paddy’s Pub, barbecues for each Resident Home Area, and now and then, a musical performance.

This spring, with support from a small group of donors and two dedicated volunteers, St. Pat’s undertook the restoration of the sod at the centre of the garden, and the enhancement of the flower beds around the garden and at the front of the Home. The transformation of the space is incredible. It is truly a gift to our residents, family members, staff, volunteers and the broader St. Pat’s community.

The Donegal Project

Donegal is a home area at St. Pat’s for 32 residents with advanced dementia. The Donegal Project was sparked by knowledge that many of these residents do not have the ability to participate as regularly or fully in music, recreation and spiritual care programs. Also, because Donegal is secure, residents cannot leave their home area without the company of staff, a volunteer, or specific loved ones and guests. This means more time spent inside Donegal, where the wear-and-tear to the walls and flooring was becoming obvious.

To make Donegal a warm, pleasing and comfortable space for residents, family members and staff that spend so much time there, we’re undertaking to: paint with purpose, install two murals, sew and hang valances, and replace worn carpeting with laminate flooring.
