Help Us Build a Community Where Everyone Can Thrive

Explore ways to give that reflect your values. Thank you for considering a gift that helps enhance care, dignity, and community, today and into the future.
Gift in Your Will

Including St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa in your Will is a meaningful way to support seniors today and for generations to come. A bequest allows you to make a lasting impact—often larger than you might have imagined—while retaining full control of your assets during your lifetime and still taking care of your loved ones.

Why Your Gift Matters

A gift in your Will helps build a future where older adults live with comfort, purpose, and belonging. Your generosity ensures that St. Patrick’s Home remains a welcoming place for those who need it most. Any stage of life is the right time to consider your legacy. What matters most is the impact your generosity can have.

Ways to Include a Gift in Your Will

  • Residual Bequest: A gift of all or a percentage of what remains in your estate after all other obligations are met. The value automatically adjusts over time.
  • Specific Bequest: A gift of a fixed dollar amount or a set asset from your estate.
  • Contingent Bequest: A gift that comes into effect only if specific conditions are met (e.g., if other beneficiaries are unable to inherit).

Getting Started

  • Prepare or update your Will with the support of a lawyer or trusted advisor.
  • Decide how you would like your gift to make an impact.
  • Use clear bequest language to ensure your wishes are carried out.

We encourage you to let us know about your gift. This allows us to thank you personally and, if you wish, to ensure your gift reflects what matters most to you. All conversations are treated with care, respect, and confidentiality.

Donating publicly traded securities is a meaningful and tax-efficient way to support quality of life at St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa. The Foundation accepts a wide range of securities, including stocks, bonds, mutual fund units, and income trust units listed on major designated exchanges. Your gift directly supports compassionate resident care, enriching programs, and the continued growth of our campus.

Why Donate Securities?

Gifts of securities can offer significant tax advantages. When you donate securities directly (rather than selling them first and donating the cash), capital gains tax is eliminated, which can reduce the overall cost of your gift.

You will receive a charitable tax receipt based on the fair market value of the securities on the day they are received in the Foundation’s account.

We strongly encourage you to consult with your financial advisor to ensure this type of gift is appropriate for your personal financial and tax situation.

How to Transfer a Gift of Stock

  • Notify the Foundation: Contact us to share your intention to donate so we can assist you and your advisor.
  • Contact Your Broker or Financial Advisor: Your advisor will help initiate the transfer of securities from your account to the Foundation’s account. In most cases, this requires written authorization.
  • Complete the Transfer: Once the transfer is complete and the securities are received, the Foundation will issue an official charitable tax receipt. Securities should be transferred “in kind” (not sold first), and it is not necessary to re-register share certificates.
